WHY ALL OF THESE PAINTINGS?
Since January, I've realized that my way of coping with everything that's going on in this country, has been to paint like my life depended on it, even more than ever. No matter how you feel about things politically, no matter what side of all of this you believe to be the correct side, unless you're not conscious, you have to admit that life in this society of ours, is not as we knew it a short 3 months ago. For the health and well being of us all, I hope and pray that as US citizens, we find the path to unity, to peace and a coming together for our greater good, leaving no one behind. Like many of you, I lose sleep over this at night. Painting is my antidote, something I wish I could share with anyone who doesn't paint. All of you who do paint or creatively add to our society in some way, know exactly what I'm saying.
The reality is that no one needs to paint (arguable to those of us who do need to paint), or to own a painting to fill a physical need for self sustainability. I guess you could use them as plates, to shingle a house, or cover a floor; you can't eat them, wear them (at least not mine), or trade for transportation, food, housing or medicine. I've tried.
This is why ART in our society is so vital, so critical to our existence. Painting paintings, and collecting paintings, offers us as moral support, soothing our souls when our souls need it most. Paintings offer another reality, one that may or may not exist, that we can enter freely, absorbing all that it has to offer. When we connect with art, when we paint a painting, write a poem or piece of music, we enter a space that the art occupies, in a metaphysical way. It becomes an uplifting activity that offers sustainable fulfillment, more fulfilling than any of the other needs can ever provide, because it's spiritual.
Painting allows me to gather spiritual and emotional strength, to feel relief from the every day events that otherwise drag me down and try to crush the spirit of beauty in my world. So I paint a LOT!
I am convinced, after quite a few years of doing this painterly thing, that when someone finds a painting that touches them, when they add it to their lives, to their home for whatever time it's with them, they feel the same way.
