Marc R. Hanson O.P.A.M. Pop-Up Day Plein Air Painting Workshop November 11 & 12, 2024
I am excited to announce that I am going to hold an in person plein air painting workshop for the first time since 2021. I’m not sure how many of these I will be conducting in the future, but I am excited to get back to feet on the ground painting instruction, outside! I hope you’ll consider joining us the second week of November near the beautiful Georgia coast when the temps have settled down, as should have the bugs. We will paint regardless of the weather, hurricanes excluded, so be ready for anything from sunny, balmy weather in the low 70’s, to chillier with wind and rain. We will have sheltered areas to head to if need be.
Tuition Cost: $350.00 (Maximum class size is 15 students. Minimum class size is 8 students. If the minimum number of registered students is not met one week before the start date (Nov 4), I will notify registered students of the cancellation and refund your class tuition fee.)
How to Register: Indicate that you would like to be a part of the workshop by emailing me at: marc@marchansonart.com, and I will send an invoice to you using Stripe which will allow you to pay with a credit or debit card. If you prefer payment by check, let me know and I will send you my mailing address.
Who: For anyone with some, or a lot of, painting experience who would like to learn more about plein air painting from an award winning, nationally shown painter. I’ll focus on helping you to improve your choices made about Concept, Composition, Color, Edge relationships, and Drawing. Including suggestions about technique, materials, and how to deal with changing light and weather conditions. It would be best if you have some experience painting outside, but it’s not absolutely necessary.
What: Two days of plein air demonstration and instruction. I’ll demonstrate at least once each day, followed by one on one instruction at your easel, group discussion and a critique period at the end of each day. I will provide a Supply List of “Suggested Supplies” when you register. You may work in the medium of your choice. When I’m demoing, the information will be geared towards the medium I’m using, which will be Acrylic one day, and Oils one day. Otherwise, all of the information given will pertain to all painting, no matter what medium you paint with.
Where: Fort Pulaski National Monument near Tybee Island, GA. The fort is a great location to paint with ample parking, bathroom facilities, and it has an abundance of easily accessible, coastal landscape to paint. There is a short walk about 1/4 mile from the parking area to where we will paint, on a paved path, making a roller bag or cart a good idea if you have any issues with that. This will require either National Park entry fee ($10/person per day) or an Annual National Park Pass, if you have one.
When: Monday November 11 - 10am-4pm, Tuesday November 12 - 10am-4pm. We will have a lunch break 12noon to 1pm. The Park opens at 9am, closes at 5pm. That leaves a little time in the beginning and end of class for getting there and cleaning up to leave.
You will need to provide your own lunch. There are restaurants on Tybee but I recommend you bring a sack lunch, due to the travel time to get there and back. I will have a cooler with ice if for anything requiring that. I will also have a 5 gal water jug along for refilling water bottles.
Please, No disposable plastic bottles would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Refund Policy: If I have to cancel the workshop for any reason, you will be refunded the $350.00 tuition cost in full. Should you decide to cancel your spot with less than 1(one) week's notice prior to the first day of the workshop, a $75.00 administration fee will be retained from your tuition cost refund ($275.00 will be refunded).
