I just re-watched the beginning of the video and this time heard why you’re using that mesh screen underneath to keep things from sliding off! Great idea!
Hi Marc-sorry this question is not about this demo (which is amazing by the way!) But I do want to ask a couple of questions about your acrylic painting demo. Which brand of cradled boards do you use and what is the acrylic medium you dilute your paints with?
Thank you so much for your time and for teaching us!
Melissa, thank you! I usually just use Blick Premier or Studio cradled panels, occasionally Ampersand, but all purchased at our local Blick in Savannah. It's convenient and without shipping charges, which are ridiculous for anything over 24-30". I seal them with a couple coats of gloss medium, then either paint on that, or prime with several acrylic primers depending on what I want the surface to be like when I paint on it. Some are more dry/absorbent, some like the Michael Harding Non Absorbent primer, are To dilute I use fluid matte medium, and satin or gloss glazing liquid.
After too long a hiatus from painting, you are an inspiration and a motivator to me. You are well organized in your work and share methods that work. I love your heart for any fate. You find a way to make creating work. Thank you, Mark.
I am absolutely fascinated by that painting, the process and the subject. Ditto for the larger version. It seemed another whole level of complexity on a smaller scale. Watching a demo of some length definitely helps me to take in the process better. Thanks!
Have been struggling with gouache for awhile. Haven’t watched the entire video yet but am certain your demo will be extremely helpful. Can’t imagine how you were able to pull it off while continuing to work through Covid. Thank you!
Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed watching that beautiful painting from start to finish while listening to your intentions for the piece along with your general thoughts and ideas. You’re an inspiration. I live an hour from The Cape and am hoping to get along to yours and Dottie’s show. I’m happy to hear that you are both on the other side of Covid now, my cough lingered for a good while after and yours didn’t affect the enjoyment of the demo at all!
You are so versatile with using different mediums. You mentioned pastels and I would LOVE to see a demo using that medium!? Hope you and Dottie are all better soon!
Thank you, Susan! I might do that if... I can find my pastels! They've been tucked away for space reasons at the studio. It's in the back of my head to do one though.
Wonderful gouache demo! I can’t believe your paints are staying wet throughout the entire session! I love your handmade sketching easel. Why did you add the screening underneath the palette?
Just finished watching this August 7th...and I was NEVER BORED! I , too love your marks and the way you portray the natural world. The splatter at the end was the grand finale!

Thanks Kathleen! Yes, it’s rubber liner that you put in tool chests to keep tools in place. Kind of sticky, but not.

This was just so inspiring! Going to dig out my gouache. Thank you Marc! So much energy in this little painting.
Thank you, really wonderful to watch & listen to your process! Beautiful painting and composition is so helpful to my own work.
Thank you, Jim! So glad something is ringing bells when I do these things. Thanks for subscribing.
Thanks for the demo. Again you managed to inspire while informing. Good luck with your show.
Thank you, Diane! Happy I'm bringing something to the table.

Hi Janette... I hope you can make it to the show. If you do during the opening night, it would be nice to meet you. Thank you!
