I ask that because it is not as warm as it should be here! And the holiday is coming… it’s just not right.
This week I’m going to share some paintings that I’ve done lately, some are still in progress. And, a couple of plein air pieces… ALL… acrylic paintings. I’ve set the oils aside for the time being and am working in acrylic paint on paintings for a show coming up in July. As you can see from the second photo here, my palette is on a Husky tool chest with a piece of 1/4” tempered glass on top of the wood top that comes with it. On smaller paintings I use the 7 compartment plastic bead holders that I mentioned in an earlier post. For larger paintings, I simply open the pots of the colors I want to use and take paint straight out of those to mix the colors needed. While working, I will sometimes mist the paint on the palette surface with water to keep it wet. That works really well, and for my taste, is a better idea than using a retarder. That, and using some glazing medium, keeps the paint moving pretty well.
If you’re interested, I have opened a Collection on my website where I will be posting work, like the two studies above, and some other ‘smallish’ paintings that are for sale and may be purchased directly from the website. The works in the collection are studio or plein air studies, small, most all unframed… unless noted otherwise… and I include shipping in the sale price. The sale price is discounted 20% from my normal gallery retail price on each painting. I will add to this collection as more are available. So if you don’t see something that you want right now, be sure to check back in.
Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend… and may yours warm to normal holiday weekend temps before it’s all over! Cheers, Marc
Memorial Day Weekend
Love all the paintings! Polyflax canvas board? What is it and can oil paint be used on it?
By the way, it's in the 60s and gray skies in the Laguna Beach area. It's our "May Gray" time, soon to be followed by "June Gloom".
