thanks for writing about your feelings re working abstract (non objective) vs realism. I have tried doing it and experienced the same sort of emptiness you describe -- a lack of an emotional connection to the work. Representational work IS abstracted from nature - edited and simplified in order to get to the essence. It's fascinating that what is acceptable in a photograph is different from what works in a painting. Painting is such an idealized and very personal response to a subject, no matter how abstract. But without an apparent subject, it's harder to figure out the why.

I like abstract work only to a certain point. Beyond which for some reason I lose interest. This is odd for me to admit because I actually own several abstract pieces of work hanging now in my home. Here is something I admit to myself. My own work is abstract only to the extent that I cannot reproduce it as it appears in the natural world. Sometimes I look at abstract art and my eyes glaze over. I love your work of nature.

Wow, Marc, that’s a lot of paint and a lot of painting. Glad to hear all is well.

Marc,

That first large one (48x72) is spectacular. I love the looseness of the strokes!

And I am loving your abstract work!!

I really love the abstract paintings but I can completely relate to the way you see life and art and nature.
